I discover Kim Cam Jones during this fashion month (SS18), and I fell in love at the first sight.
The coat from JOSEPH is a master piece, I love the double belt, and the way she is wearing this coat, a little bit off shoulder, so we can perceive her white top. Add the purple Balenciaga heels and you’ll have the perfect rain outfit, huge fan!
I also want to talk about the condition this day, the rain was so heavy, one photographer camera died because of the rain, our camera are supposed to be waterproof, but with this heavy rain without rain protection the camera cannot support this.
I am talking about the cameras but you should also know all the street style photographers are really brave. This season in New York was really cold, first time for me I was shooting the NYFW in February, I was hoping for snow, really cool to have some photos under the snow, but never came only the cold!
I remember wearing in New York many layers of clothes, Ski Legging and Ski body, 1 or 2 T shirts, one hoodie and then my coat or my raincoat, plus 3 layers of gloves.
I pretty sure you are surprise that it was cold when you see Kim only wearing a small top and a coat. But bloggers are just walking between shows and their cars all day. Photographers are waiting all day outside, the temperature was about 0° or sometimes negative!!
Let’s explain quickly how is it working, schedule shows are for instance at 10 am, 12 am, 14pm, 15pm etc.. most of the time big shows are spaced from 2 hours each, but some are just the next hours.
If a show starts at 10 am, I’ll try to arrive 10-15 minutes before the hour indicated. So I arrive at 9:45am to the location. Most of the time, bloggers etc.. arrived between 10am and 10:20am at the show but some arrived a bit before because of traffic or they know they will do some photos with photographers, so I prefer to be at the location earlier and wait so I won’t miss anyone. Shows start at 10:30am (Only in London that shows are starting on time), 30 minutes after the hour indicated, that how is it working in New York, Milan and Paris. Show last approximatively 10-15 minutes so people are starting leaving around 10:40am.
So I am shooting again, it could be the same bloggers and I am trying to have a better photos, or people that I missed! And models are leaving around 10:50am, so if there is another big show at 11am I will miss the entry and shoot only the exit, timing is too short to shoot both, and location show are sometimes really far away from each other.
But the next big shows could be only in fews hours later, so I’m going to wait outside all this time, freezing in the cold. Most of the time when it’s freeezing I am just waiting in a coffee shop but sometimes there are nothing around..
So yeah, I am waiting a lot and if you want to be a street-style photographer you should be patient, really patient.
Enjoy the Photos, Eloan x
